Ontario announces plans to build new Catholic elementary school in Etobicoke

August 27, 2020

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Tuesday that his government would spend almost $16 million to build a new Catholic elementary school in Etobicoke.

Ford said up to 600 children would be able to attend the new school, and that the facility would result in the creation of 88 new affordable childcare spaces.

The Ontario government also addressed a shortage in bus drivers as schools across the province prepare to reopen, with Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce announcing $1 billion in transportation. Lecce said it would be the largest investment in transportation “in Ontario history.”

He also said a “full suite of PPE” would be provided to school bus drivers and that it would be mandatory for students to wear masks on buses.

Ontario reported 105 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and one new death.
