SPELLING WORDS WITH THE SHIN SOUND ~ List of shin words in description box

There are two main ways to spell the ‘shn’ sound in words: TION and SION. ‘TION’ is by far and away the most common way to spell ‘shin’ in words, with over 2,000 examples. There are also hundreds of examples that use ‘SION’ to create this sound, so it’s well worth while learning the correct spellings to avoid confusion.

Occupations, like beautician and optician, use ‘CIAN’ to give us the ‘shin’ sound, so that helps us differentiate the spelling of the ‘shin’ sound from the other variations. There are not too many commonly known words ending with ‘CIAN’ as you will see from the video and the list below.

There are also a few other methods, but these are only used in a few commonly used English words: CION, TIAN and SHION.
